Aline Laurence Girard, France. (1959 - )
I first encountered Aline's wonderful sculptures in October 2000 when we were both participants in the 6th International Festival d'Art Singulier, Roquevaire-Aubagne, Provence. We met and became close friends with Aline and her partner Véronique Duhaut, a talented photographer, and have remained so ever since.
It gave me the greatest pleasure to be able to present this exhibition of her very individual mixed media sculpture in December 2004.
Aline says of her work .....
"C'est un travail qui a longuement germé et pris racine en mon for intérieur, s'est déployé en plusieurs branches, en plusieurs dimensions. Par la grâce naturelle des matériaux les plus nobles et pauvres à la fois, trouvés en chemin, collectés au fil du temps, façonnés par petites séries en pièces uniques.
" The seeds of my art have germinated slowly over a lifetime, taking root in my heart of hearts and branching out in several directions - several dimensions … through the natural grace of both the noblest and poorest of materials, found by the way, gathered with the passing of time , shaped in short series of single pieces.
"In a search not for decoration but for a sculptural and pictorial language that would touch everyone in their "intact depths of humanity" **. A subversive attempt, through the expressive and symbolic force of the very materials themselves and a given representation, to provoke in the viewer emotions, questionings and thoughts about ( life's essentials / what is essential).
"To remind ourselves - seemingly so cruel - that we are nevertheless tender and fragile."
** cf. Jean Rostand
